NASA Space Reactor – 1 Freedom Flight Software Verification and Validation (V&V) Test Engineer
The Opportunity:
CACI is looking for a Flight Software Verification and Validation (V&V) Test Engineer to support the Space Reactor – 1 Freedom Program at NASA Johnson Space Center (JSC). This exciting position involves reviewing flight software requirements, defining, implementing, and executing test cases for V&V of Space Reactor – 1 Freedom Integrated flight software and associated data products. The position involves utilizing Space Reactor – 1 Freedom test labs and developing test scripts for automated verification testing. Strong background in systems engineering is required, including experience with system architecture and integration. Expertise in data manipulation through excel, python, etc along with general scripting skills (e.g., JSON, Python, Bash, PowerShell) are a plus for automation and tool development. The individual will define verification test success criteria and analyze test results for verification of Space Reactor – 1 Freedom Integrated flight software requirements. The individual will also play a key part in scripting the test automation scheme.
This position requires a self-motivated engineer with strong technical depth, communication skills, problem-solving ability, and a collaborative, customer-focused mindset. This work is performed onsite at NASA/JSC in Houston, Texas, in a highly dynamic environment that is central to human spaceflight and space exploration.
Responsibilities:
- Develop JSON-based Core Flight Software (CFS) Test Framework (CTF) scripts for automating verification tests.
- Use data manipulation skills to compile traceability assessments for verification coverage.
- Review and provide feedback on Integrated flight software requirements from a verification perspective.
- Adhere to JSC flight software development processes for performing and documenting V&V testing.
- Write flight software V&V test cases.
- Perform V&V testing of flight software and data products in test labs including Space Reactor – 1 Freedom Software and Avionics Lab (SSAL).
- Support V&V Plan revisions and updates as assigned.
- Analyze Flight Software use cases for behavior and expected results of the SR-1 Software System.
- Develop and review Flight Software Verification & Validation Procedures based on the SR-1 FSW requirements and the objectives identified in the FSW V&V Plan.
- Perform FSW V&V Procedure test and checkout, dependent on the availability of verification facility capabilities.
- Assess and evaluate test automation concepts, required capabilities, and tools to reduce the time and effort required to develop and dry run integrated V&V Procedures.
- Extract and analyze detailed test results.
- Verify Integrated flight software requirements.
- Identify software deficiencies in meeting requirements.
- Perform audit and inspection of Level 3 flight software testing.
Qualifications:
Required:
- Must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident for access to US Government facilities.
- B.S. in Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical, Computer or Software Engineering, Computer Science, or related disciplines required.
- At least 3 years of related work experience as either a software developer or test engineer writing scripts. Greater experience is highly valued.
- Proficiency in one or more compiled or scripting language.
- Experience working in a Linux environment.
- Experience defining software test cases.
- Experience developing test scripts.
- Experience evaluating software requirements from a verification perspective.
- Knowledge of object-oriented design in any programming language.
- Must be flexible, open to new challenges in a dynamic environment, and possess strong technical expertise combined with strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities with little supervision.
- Must be a highly responsible, team-oriented individual with strong work ethic.
- Must have highly developed coordination and organization skills.
Desired:
- M.S. in Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical, Computer or Software Engineering, Computer Science, or related disciplines.
- Strong JSON scripting experience.
- Python experience.
- Experience developing and automating CTF scripts.
- Experience automating verification tests.
- Experience with spacecraft or aircraft flight software verification and certification. Experience in the automobile or autonomous vehicle industry is also highly valued.
- Experience with RESTful APIs.
- Software development background, particularly in Python.
- Experience with Python to design and implement a test scripting scheme that interfaces with a RESTful API.
- Experience writing flight software requirements.
- Experience in bus communication protocols (e.g., 1553, RS-422, RS-232, USB, Ethernet).
- Experience in safety critical flight software in aerospace or other industries.
- Vehicle-wide knowledge of space vehicle systems.
