Middle Office Trade Management & Settlements, Vice President

Statestreet
Quincy, Massachusetts VP Full-time

Who we are looking for

A hands-on Middle Office leader with deep trade management and settlements expertise who can run a high-volume production environment while strengthening controls and modernizing the operating model. The successful candidate will combine operational judgment, product knowledge and confident client engagement, and will provide clear ownership during time-sensitive production issues and escalations.

Role purpose

Lead components of end-to-end trade management and settlement operations for a major asset manager client, with accountability for control, service delivery, issue resolution and modernization.

Functional scope

Trade capture and enrichment; confirmation and matching; settlement instruction; fail prevention and resolution; cash and position impact; broker, custodian and market-infrastructure coordination.

Product scope

Equities, fixed income and foreign exchange.

Leadership scope

Multi-location operational teams; direct managers and subject matter experts; cross-functional delivery with client, technology, product, risk and control partners.

Success measures

Timely and accurate settlement, reduced aged fails and exceptions, strong control execution, transparent client communication, resilient workflows and measurable service improvement.

What you will be responsible for

  • Own assigned components of daily trade management and settlement delivery across the transaction lifecycle, from trade receipt and enrichment through confirmation, matching, instruction, settlement and post-settlement exception resolution.

  • Ensure trades are complete, accurate and market-ready, with correct economic terms, standing settlement instructions, account data, broker details, currency, place of settlement and relevant reference data.

  • Monitor settlement status, unmatched trades, failed trades, cash breaks, position breaks and aged exceptions; prioritize risk-sensitive items and drive remediation to closure.

  • Lead same-day responses to production incidents and client escalations, including impact assessment, containment, root-cause coordination, stakeholder communication and sustainable corrective action.

  • Maintain effective relationships with clients, investment teams, trading desks, brokers, custodians, central counterparties, depositories and other market participants to prevent and resolve issues.

  • Operate a robust control environment covering maker-checker controls, reconciliations, exception aging, handoffs, evidence retention, procedure adherence and escalation thresholds.

  • Use service, risk and quality metrics to manage performance, capacity and priorities. Provide concise reporting on volumes, timeliness, fails, aged items, root causes and improvement actions.

  • Lead, coach and develop managers, analysts and subject matter experts across multiple locations; establish clear accountability, effective coverage and disciplined operating routines.

  • Partner with operations, product, technology, data, risk and compliance teams on regulatory, market and client-driven change.

Stakeholder and client leadership

  • Act as the senior operational escalation point for assigned trade management and settlement functions, communicating issues with clarity, urgency and appropriate transparency.

  • Build credibility with senior client stakeholders through command of detail, balanced judgment and consistent follow-through on commitments.

  • Chair or contribute to service reviews, incident governance, change forums and control discussions; maintain named owners, due dates and evidence of closure.

  • Balance client outcomes, operational resilience, market obligations and enterprise risk requirements when making decisions.

What we value

  • Deep knowledge of Middle Office trade management and settlements for institutional asset managers.

  • Working knowledge of equities, fixed income and FX, including the operational dependencies that drive confirmation, matching and settlement.

  • Established relationships and practical experience working with brokers, custodians and market infrastructures.

  • Strong understanding of the Middle Office technology stack, including transaction processing, reference data, workflow, reconciliation, accounting and performance dependencies.

  • Proven leadership in complex, multi-location operations, with the ability to develop people and create accountability through direct managers.

  • Strong critical thinking, prioritization and written and verbal communication skills, particularly during high-pressure incidents and escalations.

  • Ability to lead multiple initiatives with limited oversight and convert operational needs into sustainable process and technology outcomes.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and data-driven management reporting.

Education and preferred qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience.

  • 7-10 years of relevant financial services experience, including substantial experience in trade management and settlements.

  • Prior responsibility for client-facing Middle Office operations, operational controls, people leadership and technology-enabled change.

  • Experience supporting a large institutional asset manager and operating across global markets is preferred.

Why this role matters

This role protects the integrity of the post-trade operating model. Effective leadership directly supports timely settlement, accurate books and records, controlled cash and position outcomes, strong client service and the safe adoption of new products and technology. The role is central to connecting the client, market counterparties, operations and technology around a resilient and scalable service.
