OEM Remanufacturing is Finning’s flagship reman facility rebuilding some of the largest Caterpillar mining equipment in the world. Our Engines Technical Services department is looking for someone like you to join our dynamic failure analysis team.

In this role you will learn the process of failure analysis on Caterpillar Engines in order to determine the root cause of component failure. This is carried out as a team by documenting component condition on the shop floor, researching component history, analyzing individual piece parts and relating this information to the function and operation of the components. Using this information, you will prepare technical reports for the end customer and Caterpillar that can initiate product and performance improvement. Job Description:

  • Through the Failure Analysis process, determine root cause of component failure

  • Prepare technical reports supporting root cause determination

  • Observing and documenting component condition upon disassembly

  • Researching component history

  • Analyzing individual piece parts and relating this information to the function and operation of the components

  • Assist in the development of technical documentation that supports the OEM remanufacturing processes

  • Assess product improvement recommendations and initiate required internal change

  • Lead or participate in business process improvement projects

  • Participate in continuous improvement projects

  • Develop subject matter expertise in an area relevant to the remanufacturing process in order to support peers and colleagues

  • During shift work tech leads are responsible for data collection for other team members (reports are authored by other team members)

  • Tech leads are responsible for filling our daily FLHAs any time they enter the shop floor and adhering to all safety policies

  • Maintain positive relationships with internal and external customers


Qualifications:

  • Candidates who have significant experience and/or an Engineering degree in related discipline (mechanical, metallurgical, Etc.) would be preferred

  • Technical knowledge of large diesel engines & systems, preferably but not exclusively Caterpillar Products including Caterpillar 3400, 3500 and C-series engines considered an asset

  • Mechanical Engineering Technologists or Heavy Duty Mechanics with equivalent experience will be considered

  • Strong root cause analysis skills

  • The ability to effectively communicate technical findings in writing or verbally

  • Ability to clearly communicate work instructions to production personnel in order to document and preserve evidence of failure

  • Able to work within a team environment

  • The ability to work safely, lead by example, and to contribute to overall company safety

  • Fully conversant with Microsoft Office environment (Word, Excel)

  • Familiar with a mid-scale ERP environment

  • Familiar with Caterpillar SIS an asset

  • Familiar with Metallurgy principles would be an asset

  • Familiar with ISO Quality Assurance Programs


Note:

  • This position will require coverage on early, evening, weekend and office shifts, and is internally scheduled with you and the team in advance

  • We cover the Production hours which encompass 5AM to 330PM and 4PM to 230AM Monday to Thursday (2 shifts), as well as weekends from 6AM to 630PM. There are also regular 8AM to 4:30 PM office shifts

  • Base salary ~ $75000+ per year, based on experience, as well as bonus eligibility
