The Boeing Company is currently seeking a Lead Software Architect with experience in systems engineering and systems architecting to support the Denali Software team located in Herndon, Virginia. This position will focus on supporting the Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) software engineering organization.

 Position Responsibilities: 

  • Leading the end-to-end architecture, design, development, testing, analysis, and maintenance of software systems (non-embedded) to meet industry, customer, safety, security, and regulatory/certification standards.

  • Partnering with stakeholders to define system requirements and translate system-level and customer requirements into software requirements, models, architectures, algorithms, interfaces, and detailed designs with clear traceability to code and test artifacts.

  • Overseeing software system-level analyses and research activities to identify risks, issues, opportunities, and technology gaps; evaluate and drive adoption of current and emerging technologies, tools, frameworks, and regulatory changes.

  • Directing integration, enhancement, optimization, debugging, and verification activities to ensure reliable, efficient, high-performance software and seamless system integrations.

  • Establishing, monitoring, and improving software processes, tools, and key performance indicators to align projects with organizational goals and industry benchmarks; consult on process, domain, and system-specific issues.

  • Managing and review the development, documentation, and maintenance of user documentation and support processes.

  • Supporting software project management, including planning, execution, contractual compliance, and review of product and process alignment with project plans and standards.

  • Tracking, monitoring, and evaluating internal team and supplier performance to ensure product and process compliance with project plans, industry standards, and contractual requirements.

  • Providing technical leadership and guidance to ensure designs, requirements, and implementation align with customer, operational, performance, safety, and certification objectives.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience): 

  • Bachelor’s Degree

  • Active Top Secret and SCI eligible

  • 10+ years of experience in the Software Development lifecycle (including Requirements Analysis, Design, Code, Integration & Test

  • 10+ years of experience with Java, C++, Angular / React.js, HTML, and CSS languages

  • 10+ years of experience developing, documenting, and maintaining architectures, requirements, algorithms, interfaces, and designs for software systems

  • 5+ years of experience leading projects and/or individuals in software development lifecycle tasks

  • 5+ years of experience in developing software products in a cloud environment

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):  

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science and 14+ years of related work experience OR Bachelor’s Degree and 18+ years of directly related work experience OR 22+ years of related, relevant experience

  • Strong verbal and written skills, teaming skills, technical skills, and integration skills

  • Experience with embedded software architecture/development/design

  • Experience with Agile software development and related processes

  • Experience with implementation, verification, and validation processes, practices, and guidelines to ensure software development quality, performance, and safety

  • Experience with software development processes in compliance with established internal and industry standards, guidelines, and best practices in the development, testing, and deployment of software

  • Experience with software architecture and design methodologies. Ability to synthesize software architectures and designs that meet requirements, characteristics, and constraints

  • Experience in systems integration with systems engineering processes and procedures

  • Experience with the specification format requirements, guidelines and change control processes. Understanding of relationship between specifications/standards and product certification systems

Pay & Benefits:

Summary Pay Range/level 5: $211,650 - $286,350
