Lead Fuel Distribution System Operator

Amentum is seeking a Lead Fuel Distribution System Operator to support a unique US Navy program on the island of Diego Garcia. The Lead Fuel Distribution System Operator is responsible for supervising, coordinating, and participating in the storage, distribution, and dispensing of petroleum products. This position ensures the safe operation of fuel distribution systems and compliance with industry and organizational standards.
Job Responsibilities:
- Managing and overseeing fuel storage and distribution operations, including constant pressure-type fuel dispensing and storage systems.
- Monitoring fuel inventory levels to ensure operational needs are met and conducting accurate fuel accounting and reporting.
- Supervising and guiding fuel operators during fuel transfers, refueling operations, and other related tasks.
- Performing preventative maintenance, inspections, and system checks to ensure optimal performance of fuel storage and dispensing systems.
- Identifying operational issues and implementing corrective actions to ensure the safety, integrity, and reliability of the fuel distribution process.
- Enforcing compliance with established safety, environmental, and operational standards related to petroleum systems, including spill prevention and response.
- Assisting with the training and development of fuel system operators to ensure task proficiency and compliance with operational and safety protocols.
- Ensuring proper use, handling, and storage of petroleum equipment and consumables, such as hoses, pumps, and filters.
- Keeping detailed and accurate records of fuel receipts, issues, maintenance activities, and incident reports, as needed.
- Coordinating and communicating with supervisors, team members, and other departments to support successful operational execution.
- Required to comply with all occupational safety and health standards, rules, and orders applicable to their actions and conduct. The role demands consistent, proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), proactive reporting of workplace hazards, and total adherence to safety protocols to maintain a zero-injury environment.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned that are consistent with the nature and level of the position.
Required Qualifications:
- At least two (2) years of experience in the storage and distribution of petroleum products, including experience operating constant pressure-type fuel dispensing and storage systems.
- Knowledge of fuel storage and distribution systems, including troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, and fuel transfer operations.
- Familiarity with safety, environmental, and operational standards related to fuel operations, including spill prevention and response requirements.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
- Proficiency in maintaining accurate records, logs, and operational documentation.
- Must be in possession of a valid passport and able to travel internationally.
- Passport must be valid for at least one (1) year at the time of hire.
- Ability to obtain country-specific visas per the U.S. Department of State Foreign Clearance Guide.
- Ability to successfully pass contract medical requirements and maintain operational and physical standards for the duration of deployment.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization.
- Must be able to speak, read, and comprehend English to the extent that they can perform the contract requirements and comply with installation emergency procedures.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Formal technical training in fuel distribution systems or certifications such as API-U, AST, or NFPA fuel safety certifications.
- Prior experience in a POL (Petroleum, Oil, and Lubricants) environment or government/military fuel support operations.
- Familiarity with automated fuel management systems and fuel accounting procedures.
- Valid country driver’s license with an endorsement to operate fuel dispensing vehicles or equipment.
- Experience working in austere OCONUS (Outside Continental United States) or remote environments.
- Proven ability to lead and mentor a team in a high-pressure operational setting.

Working Environment
This position is located on Diego Garcia, British Indian Ocean Territory (BIOT), a remote overseas location supporting U.S. Government operations. Employees may work in office, industrial, warehouse, port, airfield, and outdoor environments and may be exposed to high temperatures, humidity, inclement weather, noise, dust, and uneven terrain. Work schedules may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and extended hours based on operational requirements.
Physical Requirements
Requirements may include prolonged sitting, standing, walking, climbing stairs, lifting up to 25 pounds regularly and 50 pounds occasionally, and working in both indoor and outdoor environments. Must be able to meet all medical, security, and deployment requirements associated with assignment to a remote overseas location.
