Overview
The Laboratory Assistant 3 sets up, operates, and distributes laboratory equipment and apparatus for Clinical Diagnostic purposes. Responsibilities include performing equipment maintenance and minor repairs, setting up instruments daily and cleaning them as well. The role involves maintaining laboratory facilities, ordering supplies. The assistant plays a crucial role in the organization of supplies maintaining accurate records and participating in lab meetings and discussions to support the advancement of clinical activities. This position will support histology, cytology, IHC and molecular.
Job Responsibilities:
Performs minor equipment maintenance and cleaning.
Sets up changes stainer daily.
Maintains solutions and media and advised Inventory Specialist when low.
Orders supplies for Clinical Laboratory.
Sets up and changes processor.
Files blocks and slides as needed.
Send out slides to areas within and outside of Pathology.
Accept, unpack and organize supplies as they arrive daily.
Perform daily runs to different areas of pathology throughout the day.
Accession cases as need into our LIS system.
Slide Verification.
Distributing complete and verified cases to proper service boxes/mailboxes.
Filling out maintenance/temperature logs for the H&E stainers and the tissue
processors as part of CAP regulations.
Provide cross coverage and support in other areas as operational needs require, with appropriate training provided.
The hours for this position are 7:00am-3:00pm.
Required Skills and Abilities
1. Demonstrated proficiency in laboratory procedures, including equipment maintenance and safety techniques.
2. Strong computer skills, including proficiency with Word, Excel, and laboratory software.
3. Excellent communication and organizational skills, with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
4. Ability to handle multiple assignments, work under pressure, and adapt to changing priorities.
5. Proven ability to follow detailed protocols and maintain accurate records.
Preferred Skills and Abilities
1. Prior experience in a laboratory setting, including handling biological specimens and hazardous materials.
2. Fluency in laboratory management software and collaboration tools.
3. Physical Requirements: Must be able to lift 50 pounds and requires prolonged periods of standing and walking. Incumbents in this class are exposed to disagreeable.
Principal Responsibilities
1. Performs equipment maintenance and repair. Modifies and adjusts equipment and apparatus according to experiment and specifications. 2. Creates instructional materials. Oversees and instructs support staff and students in laboratory techniques and equipment usage. 3. Performs specialized scientific/laboratory procedures and techniques. Formulates scientific solutions and media. 4. Maintains laboratory facilities and work areas. Orders supplies, equipment, and apparatus for laboratory experiments. 5. Performs additional functions incidental to laboratory activities. Required Education and Experience Six years of related work experience, four of them in the same job family at the next lower level, and high school level education; or four years of related work experience and an Associate's degree; or little or no work experience and a Bachelor's degree in a related field; or an equivalent combination of experience and education.Job Posting Date
