Overview
In this role you will serve as a technical leader within the Email & Collaboration Engineering team supporting a 50,000-user cloud environment. Provide hands-on technical leadership, raise engineering standards, and mentor junior team members through design reviews, troubleshooting methodology, and operational discipline.
Technical Leadership: Provide hands‑on engineering leadership, set technical standards, and mentor junior engineers through design reviews, troubleshooting practices, and operational rigor.
Microsoft 365 Expertise: Serve as a primary SME for Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, Outlook, and Copilot, driving advanced configuration, optimization, hybrid identity alignment, and complex messaging troubleshooting.
Multi‑Platform Collaboration Engineering: Deliver deep operational expertise across Google Workspace, Zoom, Box, Dropbox, and Confluence, designing solutions that align academic, research, and administrative needs with platform capabilities.
Operational Excellence & Incident Response: Act as an escalation point for major incidents, perform advanced diagnostics across mail flow, authentication, and collaboration security, and drive root‑cause analysis with corrective engineering improvements.
Security & Compliance Alignment: Engineer and maintain solutions that align with HIPAA and FERPA requirements.
Solution Design & Institutional Alignment: Translate institutional requirements into secure, compliant (HIPAA/FERPA‑aligned) messaging and collaboration solutions, articulating platform tradeoffs, risks, costs, and operational impacts while influencing service roadmaps.
Project & Initiative Execution: Lead and execute platform migrations, feature rollouts, tenant optimizations, and cross-department initiatives.
Required Skills and Abilities
1.Developed understanding of computer architecture, operating systems, and data structures. Advanced Microsoft 365 expertise required. Operational expertise in at least several of the following: Google Workspace administration, Zoom enterprise configuration, Box/Dropbox enterprise environments, Confluence administration.
2.Developed understanding of software engineering best practices. Strong scripting and automation experience (PowerShell required).
3.Developed analytical, critical thinking, research, and problem-solving skills.
4.Developed interpersonal, written, communication, presentation, and organizational skills.
5.Ability to write precise, detailed technical specs and documentation
Preferred Skills and Experience
Experience supporting environments at enterprise scale (20k+ users) strongly preferred.
7+ years of progressively responsible experience administering enterprise Microsoft 365 environments
Experience in higher education or similarly complex, research-oriented organizations
Demonstrated experience operating in regulated environments (HIPAA, FERPA)
Principal Responsibilities
1. Develop or modify moderately complex software programming applications from specifications. 2. Monitor, support, and troubleshoot IT infrastructure, ensuring adherence to standards and service level objectives. 3. Analyze and prepare reports on performance metrics. 4. Implement and support robust and secure IT solution. 5. Draw on relationship and technical skills to act as technical liaison to internal and external stakeholders. 6. Serve as a technical liaison; support & collaborate with internal and external stakeholders. 7. Contribute to development & implementation of best practices. Required Education and Experience Bachelor's Degree and four years of experience or equivalent education and experience.
