Position Description
This position will provide support to the Human Landing Systems (HLS) Program (LP30) as Mission Insight Support Team (MIST) Training Lead, responsible for establishing the MIST operations capability, with particular emphasis on developing and leading the training component and performing a broad range of tasks supporting operational processes and insight for mission systems. Personnel are required to be self-directed, effective team players experienced in working in a dynamic work environment.
Responsibilities
The HLS Mission Insight Support Team (MIST) supports the Lander development campaign activities and Artemis missions in which HLS is a participant. MIST encompasses pre-flight, launch, and flight operations scope. This role is responsible for assessing and documenting HLSP operational needs, defining processes and standards, operator training, and ensuring coordination across all Mission Insight Support Team (MIST) stakeholders, the Mission Control Center-Houston (MCC-H), KSC Firing Room 4 (KSC FR4), and Huntsville Operations Support Center (HOSC).
Position responsibilities include the following:
- Define MIST console responsibilities, processes, competencies, and training requirements with LFO, LGO, Crew Co, SEI, SVS, and Technical Authorities.
- Identify required tools, software, data access, and ground system capabilities, support deployment and testing.
- Coordinate with HOSC for training space, account creation, data routing, communication loops, and remote access needs.
- Align training standards, procedures, and interfaces with LFO, LGO, Crew Co, SEI, SVS, and Technical Authorities.
- Develop curricula, work instructions, SOPs, and scenario libraries covering nominal and off nominal operations.
- Develop and maintain instructor materials and integrate training products into the MIST Jira platform.
- Conduct and/or coordinate instructor led training, tabletop reviews, dry runs, and full integrated simulations with MCC H/HOSC/KSC/HLS providers.
- Execute mission representative rehearsals validating comms, developing MMT chart packages, data routing, tool usage, and team coordination.
- Maintain proficiency through periodic drills, updated materials, and continuous cross office integration.
- Collaborate across organizational boundaries and engineering disciplines to facilitate and execute engineering tasks and resolve systems integration issues.
- Support HLS Program technical activities by participating in management reviews, study reviews, providing technical advice, compiling status reports, and preparing technical documents.
- Sustain an organized work environment that promotes safety, efficiency, and productivity.
- Occasional Travel to KSC and JSC will be required.
Qualifications
A degree from an ABET-accredited institution is required and a minimum of 10 years of relevant engineering experience. Must be a US Citizen and have a STAR ID.
The candidate is also required to have the following qualifications:
• Experience with space flight operations, payload/vehicle operations, or spacecraft mission support.
• Experience with training space flight operations teams.
• Knowledge of MSFC, JSC, or HOSC operational processes is desirable.
• Strong communication, organizational skills, and proficiency with Microsoft Office tools.
• Ability to work proactively and engage across multiple technical and operational disciplines.
Essential Functions
Work Environment:
Office environment. Requires ability to provide clear, concise, accurate and timely communication, both verbally and in writing (100%). Requires ability to interact professionally with co-workers, management, and client (100%). Requires travel in the domestic USA (5%). Requires ability to work at a computer for long periods of time (100%).
Physical Requirements:
Requires sitting for extended periods of time in meetings with peers, management, and with our client at NASA facilities to discuss technical issues (10%). Also, requires sitting for extended periods of time at a desk to write reports and perform engineering tasks (80%). Requires ability to use stairs or elevators for access between floors and multiple buildings at NASA and our facilities (10%).
Equipment and Machines:
Requires ability to operate a personal computer, a telephone, fax machine, copier, calculator, and other general office equipment (100%).
Attendance:
Normal workday 7:30-4:30, Monday thru Friday. Minimal overtime may be required (10%) to meet schedule milestones and to support technical demands of the job. Regular attendance is a necessity, and adequate arrangements for delegating duties during absences are required.
Other Essential Functions:
The ability to work independently with minimal supervision, and to make rational decisions, and to exercise good judgment is essential (100%). Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others.
