We are seeking an experienced Program Chief Engineer to lead cross‑functional engineering teams and drive the development of advanced imaging technologies. In this role, you’ll help shape state‑of‑the‑art EO/IR systems that support critical defense missions for the United States and partner nations. Ideal candidates bring advanced expertise in electro‑optical and infrared sensing, image and metadata processing, and image quality assessment. Experience with flight testing, integration of complex electromechanical systems, aircraft integration, mission planning, and ground image processing is highly valued. You should also have proven experience managing projects, overseeing cost and schedule, improving processes and tools, and leading multi‑disciplinary teams to deliver successful program outcomes.

What You Will Do

  • Lead multi-discipline engineering teams in executing EO/IR imaging systems programs

  • Take overall responsibility for cost and schedule performance of the technical tasks on said programs.

  • Support manufacturing, Integration and Test, Aircraft Integration, Delivery Support and Post Delivery Support

  • Serve as the primary customer interface for technical matters and serve as voice of the customer

  • Balance the needs of the business with customer expectation to deliver high-quality products

  • Ensure compliance with engineering development processes and global trade regulations

  • Expect to travel domestically and internationally up to 25% of the time

Qualifications You Must Have

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 10 years of prior work experience, or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 7 years of prior work experience.

  • Experience with leading large, complex development and production programs

  • Strong communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to audiences.

  • Experience with leading and collaborating with high performing multi-discipline teams.

  • Ability to obtain a security clearance is required prior to start date. U.S. citizenship is required as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance

Qualifications We Prefer

  • Experience as Project Engineer, Integrated Product Team (IPT) lead, or comparable role

  • Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with multidisciplinary teams of system design professionals including systems, electrical, mechanical, software

  • Program Management skills such as Integrated Master Schedule Development, Cost Account Management, Earned Value Management

  • Experience with sensor and avionics equipment integration on airborne platforms

  • Experience coordinating and executing System Integration Lab and Flight Test qualification events

*This position currently is designated as remote. Employees who are working in remote roles will work primarily offsite (from home) but may be expected to travel to the site location as needed. The successful candidate for this role will be required to reside and work from one of the 50 U.S. states (excluding U.S. territories).

The salary range for this role is 132,400 USD - 251,600 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.

Hired applicants may be eligible for benefits, including but not limited to, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, long-term disability, 401(k) match, flexible spending accounts, flexible work schedules, employee assistance program, Employee Scholar Program, parental leave, paid time off, and holidays. Specific benefits are dependent upon the specific business unit as well as whether or not the position is covered by a collective-bargaining agreement.

Hired applicants may be eligible for annual short-term and/or long-term incentive compensation programs depending on the level of the position and whether or not it is covered by a collective-bargaining agreement. Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company’s performance.

This role is a U.S.-based role. If the successful candidate resides in a U.S. territory, the appropriate pay structure and benefits will apply.
