Freight Terminal Manager

Amentum is seeking a Freight Terminal Manager to support a unique US Navy program on the island of Diego Garcia.
Job Description:
The Freight Terminal Manager is responsible for overseeing all freight terminal operations in accordance with U.S. Navy, Department of Defense, and transportation logistics standards. Responsibilities include managing daily cargo handling activities, coordinating inbound and outbound freight movements, and ensuring the safe, secure, and efficient operation of terminal facilities.
The Freight Terminal Manager provides leadership and supervision to terminal personnel, establishes work priorities, and ensures staffing, equipment, and resources are aligned to meet mission requirements. This role includes overseeing cargo documentation, inventory control, material handling equipment usage, and compliance with safety, security, and quality standards.
Additional duties include coordinating with air, sea, and ground transportation partners; resolving operational issues; supporting inspections and audits; and preparing reports for leadership and stakeholders. The Freight Terminal Manager ensures terminal readiness, maintains accountability of cargo, and supports mission‑critical logistics operations in a remote, high‑tempo environment.
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in management of stevedore operations, freight terminal operations, logistics management, or transportation operations
- Extensive operational experience with ACP 129, Visual Signaling Procedures; MIL STD 129F Military Standard Marking for Shipment and Storage; MILSTAMP Vol 1 & II Military Standard Transportation Procedures.
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Working knowledge of cargo handling procedures, freight documentation, and terminal operations
- Experience supervising personnel and managing operational workflows
- Strong organizational, leadership, and problem‑solving skills
- Must possess a valid passport and be able to travel internationally
- Passport must be valid for at least one year beyond hire date
- Ability to successfully pass contract medical requirements and maintain requirements for duration of deployment.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience managing freight terminal operations supporting military, DoD, or government programs
- Experience working in an austere OCONUS environment with a multi‑national workforce
- Familiarity with air cargo, surface freight, and intermodal transportation operations
- Excellent organizational, time management and customer service skills.
- Valid country driver’s license
- Ability to obtain country‑specific visa(s) in accordance with the U.S. Department of State Foreign Clearance Guide

Working Environment
This position is located on Diego Garcia, British Indian Ocean Territory (BIOT), a remote overseas location supporting U.S. Government operations. Employees may work in office, industrial, warehouse, port, airfield, and outdoor environments and may be exposed to high temperatures, humidity, inclement weather, noise, dust, and uneven terrain. Work schedules may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and extended hours based on operational requirements.
Physical Requirements
Requirements may include prolonged sitting, standing, walking, climbing stairs, lifting up to 25 pounds regularly and 50 pounds occasionally, and working in both indoor and outdoor environments. Must be able to meet all medical, security, and deployment requirements associated with assignment to a remote overseas location.
