Raytheon Digital Technology (DT) is seeking an Enterprise Application Architect to contribute to Raytheon’s latest factory modernization plans. In this role, you will architect applications for new factory orchestration systems, working closely with agile cross-discipline teams to prototype new platforms and systems in the cloud and on‑premise, and deliver trusted architectures that strengthen factory uptime and accelerate manufacturing flow.
You will help design and deliver Connected Worker applications that unify factory work with automation and AI to improve capacity, accelerate flow, enhance quality, and modernize the user experience—integrating information across SAP ERP and planning, MES and Industry 4.0 (i4.0) platforms, our enterprise data warehouse and knowledge graph, and material‑movement robotics using event‑driven architectures and API‑centric designs. You’ll partner with Factory Industry 4.0 and Data architects to establish unified architectures for new and modernized factories that align to our Connected Factory vision and collaborate with an Enterprise Architect to ensure digital systems, applications, and processes come together to support capacity‑growth and uptime-driven performance objectives.
As a Digital Architect operating with our Capacity Growth Office (CGO) team, you will provide architecture and roadmaps, vision, strategy, problem anticipation, and problem solving to meet existing and future business goals—setting policy and technological standards and guiding transformational initiatives that keep our factories resilient, competitive and outcome‑driven.
What You Will Do
- Architect and coordinate applications for new factory orchestration systems, defining end‑to‑end integration patterns across SAP ERP & planning, MES/i4.0, AI and data platforms, and robotics using event‑driven and API‑centric designs that strengthen real-time responsiveness and rapid issue recovery.
- Shape and create technical roadmaps that optimize and modernize the application portfolio used in factories through process and system transformation, ensuring platforms support high availability, stable operations and predictable flow.
- Define, document, and communicate solution architectures that integrate applications, factory systems, and cloud platforms; produce formal architecture artifacts using TOGAF ADM and modeling tools.
- Prototype and pilot new platforms and systems with innovation teams and partners; conduct technology assessments and proofs‑of‑concept to validate feasibility and demonstrate value.
- Provide technical leadership to Agile teams to ensure the intended architecture is realized and best practices and standards are followed; mentor developers toward solution‑architect roles with a focus on building robust, supportable and observable systems.
- Partner across infrastructure, networking, and cloud teams to ensure scalability, reliability, security, and observability for mission‑critical factory systems.
- Use and develop reusable patterns, building blocks, and reference implementations to standardize solutions and accelerate delivery; contribute hands‑on code where appropriate.
- Stay abreast of emerging technologies and Industry 4.0 trends and recommend innovations that drive continuous improvement, maximize uptime and maintains competitive advantage.
Qualifications You Must Have
- Typically requires a University Degree or equivalent experience and minimum 10 years prior relevant experience, or An Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 7 years' experience
- Industrial/Manufacturing experience architecting, designing, developing, and deploying resilient enterprise‑grade applications in factory settings.
- Experience with enterprise application integration (such as ERP/MES/IIoT/data) and architecting AI capabilities into solutions.
- Experience with deploying and hosting applications on AWS and/or Microsoft Azure, integrating with private/on‑prem environments.
- Full‑stack software development in enterprise environments (e.g., Java/Spring Boot, Python/Flask) and modern UI frameworks such as Angular or React.
- The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
Qualifications We Prefer
- Experience with industrial communications and IIoT protocols (e.g., MQTT, OPC UA, Modbus) and platforms such as Ignition, Kepware, and SCADA systems.
- Experience with ISA‑95 / Purdue models and applying digital thread concepts to integrate engineering and manufacturing systems with SAP solutions.
- Hands‑on with 12‑factor app principles, API design, and modern integration patterns; strong background across RDBMS, Graph, and NoSQL databases.
- Expertise with CI/CD and DevOps toolchains (e.g., Jenkins, Jira, Terraform, Artifactory, Maven, Git, Kubernetes/ECS/Docker; application observability).
- Experience architecting business critical systems with high-availability and resiliency.
- Experience with ontologies, knowledge graphs, and integrating semantic technologies with Agentic and AI platforms into business systems.
- Experience troubleshooting full‑stack applications across load balancers, proxies, app servers, containers, and databases in regulated, secure environments; use of Infrastructure as Code (Terraform/Ansible).
- Architecture certifications (TOGAF, DoDAF) or applied experience creating architecture models and views (ArchiMate, UML, BPMN, SysML) using enterprise modeling tools (e.g., Cameo/Sparx).
