Engineering Technician – TIGS Field Engineering & Sustainment
The Opportunity
TIGS Field Engineering & Sustainment applies technical knowledge and hands-on engineering technician experience to the integration, testing, implementation, maintenance, troubleshooting, documentation, and sustainment of complex SATCOM, RF, electronic, hardware, software, and integrated communications systems supporting the Tactical Integrated Ground System (TIGS) and related Department of Defense missions.
This position provides hands-on technical support across depot, laboratory, field, and operational environments. The Engineering Technician supports system deployment, installation, operational checkout, system and equipment testing, fault isolation, corrective and preventive maintenance, cable and chassis fabrication, technical documentation, and customer support. The position interfaces with Engineering, Product Support, Government customers, operators, maintainers, and technical support organizations to diagnose issues and restore system functionality.
The ideal candidate is an experienced SATCOM and engineering technician professional with demonstrated experience in RF troubleshooting, electronic testing and repair, systems integration, technical documentation, field operations, and CONUS/OCONUS SATCOM deployments.
Responsibilities
System Integration, Deployment & Operational Support
- Support deployment, installation, integration, setup, and operational checkout of TIGS and related SATCOM or integrated communications systems.
- Prepare, develop, and implement hardware and software system support for integration and testing.
- Provide on-site and remote technical support to troubleshoot and resolve complex SATCOM and integrated system issues.
- Support SATCOM deployments for training exercises, contingency operations, and other customer-directed activities in CONUS and OCONUS locations.
- Install racks, cable conveyance, peripheral equipment, electronic components, and associated system hardware.
- Support laboratory, depot, field, and operational testing activities.
Troubleshooting, Maintenance & Repair
- Diagnose and resolve complex SATCOM, RF, electronic, electrical, and mechanical equipment discrepancies using technical documentation, schematics, blueprints, wiring diagrams, manuals, and established troubleshooting techniques.
- Perform corrective and preventive maintenance on communications and electronic systems and associated subsystems.
- Install, test, adjust, repair, calibrate, align, assemble, and operate equipment as required to verify serviceability and restore system functionality.
- Build, terminate, test, and repair cables and chassis assemblies in accordance with applicable technical standards and build instructions.
- Pull, dress, and terminate copper and fiber-optic cabling.
- Support equipment inspections, corrosion control, lubrication, and other preventive-maintenance activities.
Electronic, RF & System Test
- Operate Test, Measurement, and Diagnostic Equipment (TMDE) and other electronic test instruments to diagnose discrepancies, verify system serviceability, restore functionality, and optimize performance.
- Conduct system and equipment tests across SATCOM, RF, electronic, electrical, and integrated subsystems.
- Support testing of signal generators, amplifiers, tunable filters, communications hardware, computers, measuring/control devices, power supplies, and related equipment.
- Document system status, test results, discrepancies, corrective actions, and final equipment condition.
Depot Sustainment & Field Engineering
- Support depot-level and field maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, system recovery, and return-to-service activities.
- Perform routine and complex maintenance on electronic and integrated system subsystems.
- Support urgent maintenance efforts and time-sensitive restoration of operational capability.
- Track, document, and support resolution of non-conforming or discrepant equipment and assets.
- Support research, design, development, testing, analysis, fabrication, manufacturing, and implementation of hardware deliverables as required.
Technical Documentation & Customer Support
- Author, review, edit, and recommend updates to technical, procedural, maintenance, build, test, and training documentation.
- Modify and enhance engineering documents based on field, integration, maintenance, and test experience.
- Provide technical expertise and troubleshooting assistance to customers and teammates during field and sustainment activities.
- Prepare reports, correspondence, system status updates, and corrective-action documentation.
- Maintain compliance with established operational, maintenance, security, and organizational procedures.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Engineering Technology, Electronics, Telecommunications, or a related technical discipline.
- Minimum ten (8) years of progressively responsible experience in SATCOM, RF systems, electronic testing and repair, engineering technician support, systems integration, field operations, or comparable technical missions. A combination of directly relevant experience, education, technical qualifications, certifications, and demonstrated specialized expertise may be considered to offset a portion of the experience requirement, where permitted by the labor category.
- Demonstrated hands-on experience supporting SATCOM systems, including deployment, integration, troubleshooting, testing, maintenance, and restoration of system functionality.
- Demonstrated experience with RF systems and troubleshooting, electronic testing and repair, and integrated hardware/software systems.
- Experience using Test, Measurement, and Diagnostic Equipment (TMDE) and electronic test instruments to diagnose faults and verify equipment or system serviceability.
- Experience reading and applying blueprints, wiring diagrams, electrical schematics, technical manuals, build instructions, and test procedures.
- Experience performing preventive and corrective maintenance on electronic, electrical, mechanical, communications, or integrated system equipment.
- Hands-on experience with cable fabrication, cable termination, chassis assembly, copper cabling, and/or fiber-optic cabling.
- Experience authoring, reviewing, editing, or recommending updates to technical, procedural, build, test, maintenance, or training documentation.
- Experience providing remote and/or on-site technical support in laboratory, depot, field, or customer environments.
- Ability to travel and deploy in support of customer missions, including CONUS and OCONUS field support when required.
- Strong problem-solving, team collaboration, attention to detail, and written/verbal communication skills.
- Active TS/SCI security clearance.
- CompTIA Security+ certification.
Technical Competencies

- IPC/WHMA-A-620 certification or demonstrated experience building cable and wire harness assemblies to applicable workmanship standards.
- Experience supporting depot-level maintenance, system recovery, field service engineering, or urgent maintenance activities.
- Experience supporting Department of Defense SATCOM, space, range, telecommunications, or other mission-critical electronic systems.
- Experience supporting technical research, design, development, integration, testing, fabrication, or hardware manufacturing activities.
- Experience with EMP-hardened systems or comparable specialized electronic infrastructure.
- Experience supporting customer training exercises, contingency operations, or deployed technical missions.
- Direct experience with Tactical Integrated Ground System (TIGS), Mobile Integrated Ground Suite (MIGS), or comparable integrated SATCOM systems.
