An Engineering Support Solder Technician is primarily responsible to use their fine pitch SMT soldering skills to rework and modify engineering micro-sized components on CCAs and prototype sub-assemblies as well as use other fabrication and test skills to completed assemblies and cable/harness systems per Engineering drawings, schematics, or work instructions.  Work includes Engineering prototyping and repair of returned materials.
 
The successful candidate will demonstrate the skills and knowledge required to effectively and efficiently repair or replace defective Engineering micro-components and wiring to ensure installations meet Engineering conformity. He or she will demonstrate effective cable/harness repair techniques using acceptable practices including splicing, crimping, soldering and pinning of wiring. The candidate will ensure that all work performed is properly and completely documented and ready for use. Verification/Inspection may be required, and candidate will need to be able to identify and document findings per authorizing protocols. 

The candidate may also provide on the job recommendations to solve hardware integration issues with mid and upper-level Engineering and Leadership. You will comply with the company’s FOD program, tool control program and all safety regulations. You may perform duties at various company locations. 

What You Will Do

  • Micro-soldering under a microscope

  • Quality verification/inspection under a microscope

  • Building new, as well as identifying, repairing, and replacing damage to wire harnesses and cable assemblies

  • Replacing mechanical and electrical components

  • Recognizing failures and isolating problems and suggesting appropriate corrective action

  • Work from verbal instructions and conceptual ideas to achieve a desired output

  • Keeping management appraised of all unresolved and/or potential problems that would negatively affect schedules or quality

  • Providing support to the Engineering development team on all assignments and supporting other lab assignments within our department

Qualifications You Must Have

  • HS Diploma or AA/AS degree (or other 2-year post high school training) with a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience

  • A minimum of 2 years of micro-soldering fine pitch SMT components

  • Verification/Inspection experience with associated standards, processes, and documentation

Qualifications We Value

  • IPC 610 certification.

  • IPC 620 certification.

  • IPC J-STD-001 solder certification.

  • Associates Degree in a Technical field.

  • Recent experience using hand tools such as cutters, wire strippers, X-acto knives, electric heat gun, and fixtures such as mold and mandrels.

  • Work experience with mechanical standards, processes, and documentation.

  • Experience with solder associated standards, processes, and documentation.

  • Experience with quality standards, processes, and documentation.

  • Experience working within an Engineering Technical Support Environment.

  • Ability to read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence, memos, schematics, detailed electronic blueprints, and other similar authorized drawings and documents.

  • CCA manufacturing experience.

  • Fabrication Standards, Processes, and Documentation.

  • Ability to fabricate special tooling to complete one-of-a-kind tasking.

The salary range for this role is 41,400 USD - 72,600 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.

Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company’s performance.

This role is a U.S.-based role. If the successful candidate resides in a U.S. territory, the appropriate pay structure and benefits will apply.
