Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is seeking a Director 1 – Strategic Investments to join our diverse team of professionals.  This position will be located in Mclean, VA.   

This position will report to the Senior Director of Global Strategy and will lead the Sector’s strategic investment analysis, planning, and execution in accordance with our long-range strategic plan. 

Key responsibilities (not all inclusive):

  • Strategic Investment Execution: Serve as the Sector lead for the internal investment and capital allocation planning and reporting process.  Work with the Senior Director of Global Strategy to ensure our strategic investments align with our strategy, technology objectives, and financial plan. Work with Business Management and the Division businesses to create a regular cadence to report key investment status to Sector leadership.  Lead the Sector equities in the Corporate Digital Transformation efforts as it relates to the adoption of new enterprise-wide investment tools and standards. 
  • Internal Investment (NCTA) and Capital Allocation Planning: Drive processes to prioritize investment and capital requests aligned with the Sector strategy and technology plans.  Identify investment opportunities to fill technology gaps, place calculated strategic bets, and advocate for allocating those resources.
  • Manage NCTA Execution: Work with relevant Sector and Division stakeholders to ensure investments are expended on schedule and within the planned parameters. Develop regular cadence with Division stakeholders to understand investment execution gaps, new investment opportunities, and re-allocate funds as necessary.
  • Inorganic Growth Strategies: Lead the assessment of mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, and equity investments in support of the Sector’s inorganic growth strategy.  In coordination with Corporate Strategy, Sector Strategy, Legal, and Business Management, execute any merger, acquisition, divestiture and equity investment approved by Sector leadership.
  • Intellectual Property Strategy: Act as Sector Strategy lead on our Enterprise, Cross-Sector, and Sector Intellectual Property teams.  Coordinate with Future Concepts and Division teams to formulate and execute an Intellectual Property strategy.

Basic Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in business related topic with 10 years of relevant experience or a Master’s degree in business related topic with 8 years experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of leadership in strategy, financial planning & analysis, or technology.
  • Experience managing investment analysis and deep understanding of NCTA and capital investments.
  • Proven and effective executive-level briefing, writing, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance up to Top Secret.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in the aerospace & defense industry.
  • Ability to build robust Investment business case models.
  • Strong analytic skills to develop insights to inform key strategic investment decisions.
  • Strong cross-functional leadership skills and ability to influence strategic decisions.
  • Experience executing mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, and equity investments.
  • Understanding of government cost accounting, financial practices, and standards. 

Primary Level Salary Range: $203,900.00 - $305,900.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
