A Day in the Life

Medtronic’s Interventional Cardiac Therapies (ICT) Renal Denervation business is seeking a motivated Electrical Design Engineering Technician to support circuit card design and development for innovative medical device products. This senior-level technician role will partner with project teams to deliver electro-mechanical solutions that meet user and business needs, while supporting new product development, revisions to existing products, and the advancement of next-generation medical devices.

This position will be based in Mounds View, MN.

         

         

In this role, the Design Technician V will support Component Library Maintenance in Altium, part requests, verification, QMS management, small PCB design and layout, electrical design support, integration and unit testing, and cross-functional collaboration with manufacturing, supply chain, quality, and other partners as needed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support electrical engineers with Altium schematic capture, PCB layout, component verification, and timely part request completion.
  • Maintain PCB symbol and footprint libraries to support accurate, reusable, and well-controlled CAD design work.
  • Translate schematics, drawings, sketches, and engineering direction into PCB layouts, test fixtures, prototypes, and electrical documentation.
  • Build, rework, solder, repair, and troubleshoot prototype PCBAs, cable assemblies, product assemblies, and electro-mechanical designs.
  • Specify and build PCBA interconnectivity, one-off prototypes, and electronic test fixtures that support development and verification needs.
  • Assist with creating, refining, executing, and documenting test methods to ensure accurate and effective test results.
  • Perform board checkouts, unit testing, system bring-up, data collection, and test reporting with accuracy and consistency.
  • Use electronic test equipment and software tools such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, signal generators, logic analyzers, EMC tools, LabVIEW, HyperTerminal, MS Office, Visio, and Agile CM.
  • Apply analog and digital electronics knowledge, ESD practices, and troubleshooting judgment to diagnose issues and validate design performance.
  • Prepare and update PCB documentation, engineering specifications, BOMs, test protocols, reports, change orders, part numbers, and release documentation.
  • Review system design intent, architecture, fixtures, procedures, and test strategies to provide practical feedback and potential solutions.
  • Identify unresolved risks, technical concerns, documentation gaps, or process issues and communicate them to the lead engineer or project team.
  • Maintain lab organization, supplies, equipment readiness, calibration coordination, and availability for development testing.
  • Track assigned tasks, provide status updates, prioritize work, acquire needed supplies, and follow activities through to completion.
  • Collaborate with the EE and R&D teams by taking direction, sharing insights, adapting to feedback, and expanding skills to better support design work.

 

Must Have, Minimum Requirements:

  • Requires minimum of 7 years of experience supporting electrical engineers with schematic capture, PCB layout and component verification
  • Requires high school diploma or equivalent (United States), vocational or technical education or certification (all other countries)

Nice to Have:

  • 15 years of experience preferred
  • Medical device industry preferred
  • In depth understanding of electro-mechanical systems utilizing embedded software
  • Direct experience with capital equipment platforms.
  • Experience with Altium or similar board layout tools i.e., Cadence/Allegro
  • Previous experience in medical device product development
  • Experience with Labview
  • General Programming knowledge

For Baccalaureate degrees earned outside of the United States, a degree that satisfies the requirements of 8 C.F.R. § 214.2(h)(4)(iii)(A) is required.

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$90,400.00 - $135,600.00

 

This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).

The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).

The following benefits and additional compensation are available to those regular employees who work 20+ hours per week: Health, Dental and vision insurance, Health Savings Account, Healthcare Flexible Spending Account, Life insurance, Long-term disability leave, Dependent daycare spending account, Tuition assistance/reimbursement, and Simple Steps (global well-being program).
