Data Access Layer Data Engineer (Mid-Level) – Managed Kafka
The Opportunity:
CACI is seeking a skilled Data Engineer (Mid-Level) to support a modernization effort within a mission critical customer environment. This position will contribute to the design and implementation of the data layer, enabling secure, scalable integration between databases utilizing managed Kafka (AWS MSK) event streaming for data exchange orchestration.
The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with AWS Managed Kafka (MSK), data migration, and integration patterns. The engineer will assist in designing and exposing APIs to support business needs.
Responsibilities:
Support data layer development and implementation, collaborating with senior architect, system engineers, and data modeler to build efficient data structures for transaction processing and reporting.
Implement data exchanges between database systems such as Oracle and PostgreSQL, using tools like AWS DMS.
Design and implement migration through event streaming patterns utilizing AWS MSK (Managed Kafka.
Assist in transformation functionality using cloud-native AWS services and integration utilities.
Analyze legacy stored procedures, triggers, constraints, and data dependencies to inform migration strategy.
Support incremental migration and soft cutover strategies that preserve operational continuity.
Assist in implementing secure REST/OpenAPI endpoints for application data storage/retrieval requirements.
Support implementation of GovCloud compliant controls including ICAM IDP/OAuth2/OIDC, ABAC, encryption-in-flow, and encryption-at-rest.
Contribute to developing and implementing data access standards and best practices for the project.
Participate in technical reviews, design sessions, and data modeling workshops.
Share best practices for secure, reliable data engineering.
Qualifications:
Required:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical field.
3–5 years of hands-on data engineering experience.
Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance is required.
Demonstrated experience with data transformation tools (e.g., AWS DMS, AWS Glue, Debezium).
Strong experience with AWS MSK (Managed Kafka): topic design, schema registry, event streaming patterns.
Experience migrating systems from on-prem RDBMS to cloud-based PostgreSQL.
Experience with schema refactoring, performance tuning, and operational cutover.
Experience implementing APIs to support application development and code reuse.
Background in distributed data integration.
Desired:
Experience modernizing data systems for DoW customers.
Familiarity with Zero Trust, IL5 boundary conditions, ICAM integration, and RMF compliance.
Experience working in Agile/SAFe environments with DevSecOps pipelines.
AWS Certified Data Engineer – Associate or equivalent certification.
Working Conditions
Hybrid work with support at CACI facilities, customer sites, or remote depending on project needs.
May require infrequent travel for technical workshops, customer engagement, or integration events.

The proposed salary range for this position is:
