Amentum is seeking a Coxswain to support a unique US Navy program on the island of Diego Garcia. The Coxswain will be responsible for the safe operation, navigation, and maintenance of assigned boats and watercraft in support of the contract. This position ensures the safety of passengers and crew while conducting waterborne transportation missions, cargo movements, and other maritime operations. The Coxswain operates navigation and communication equipment, compiles with applicable maritime regulations, and responds to emergency situations.
Job Responsibilities:
- Safely operate and navigate assigned boats and watercraft in support of mission requirements.
- Ensure the safety of passengers, crew members, and cargo during all vessel operations.
- Conduct pre inspections to verify vessel readiness, safety, and seaworthiness.
- Perform routine preventitve maintenance and minor repairs on assigned vessels and associated equipment.
- Operate, monitor, and maintain onboard navigation, communication, and safety equipment.
- Comply with all applicable maritime laws, regulations, and organizational policies governing vessel operations.
- Monitor weather and sea conditions and adjust operational plans as necessary to ensure safe navigation.
- Execute docking, mooring, anchoring, and vessel handling operations safely and efficiently.
- Coordinate vessel movements with port authorities, harbor control, and other vessels as required.
- Respond to emergencies by implementing established emergency procedures, including resue and recovery operations.
- Maintain accurate operational logs, maintenance records, voyage reports, and incident documentation.
- Conduct safety briefings and emergency drills for passengers and crew members.
- Assist with the loading, securing, and unloading of cargo, equipment, baggage, and supplies.
- Provide professional customer service while transporting passengers and supporting mission operations.
- Maintain vessel cleanliness and ensure assigned equipment remains mission ready.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned that are consistent with the nature and level of the position.
Minimum RequirementsRequired Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous experience as a Coxswain or in a similar vessel operator position.
- Qualified in accordance with NAVEDTRA 43152.2 and familiar with the waterways of Diego Garcia.
- Minimum of 48 hours of documented hads on experience safely operating deep sea fishing boats in Diego Garcia.
- Working knowledge of GPS navigation and marine navigation equipment.
- Ability to swim.
- Current American Red Cross Lifeguard, CPR, and First Aid certifications.
- Valid boat operator’s license or equivalent.
- Strong knowledge of vessel navigation, seamanship, and maritime safety procedures.
- Ability to perform routine vessel maintenance and mechanical repairs.
- Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organizational, time management, and customer service skills.
- Must be in possession of a valid passport and be able to travel internationally.
- Passport must be valid for a minimum of one (1) year or more at the time of hiring.
- Ability to obtain country-specific visas per the U.S. Department of State Foreign Clearance Guide.
- Ability to successfully pass contract medical requirements and maintain compliance throughout the duration of deployment.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization.
- Employees must read, speak, and comprehend English to the extent that they can perform the contract requirements and comply with installation emergency procedures.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior experience working in an austere OCONUS (Outside the Continental United States) environment with a multi-national workforce
- A valid driver’s license to legally operate a motor vehicle. Valid country driver’s license. and passport.

Working Environment
This position is located on Diego Garcia, British Indian Ocean Territory (BIOT), a remote overseas location supporting U.S. Government operations. Employees may work in office, industrial, warehouse, port, airfield, and outdoor environments and may be exposed to high temperatures, humidity, inclement weather, noise, dust, and uneven terrain. Work schedules may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and extended hours based on operational requirements.
Physical Requirements
Requirements may include prolonged sitting, standing, walking, climbing stairs, lifting up to 25 pounds regularly and 50 pounds occasionally, and working in both indoor and outdoor environments. Must be able to meet all medical, security, and deployment requirements associated with assignment to a remote overseas location.
