Content Designer, Human Interface Design

Generalmotors
Warren, Michigan, United States of America Mid Level Full-time

Job Description

The Role

Are you passionate about crafting intuitive, beautiful, and human-centered digital experiences across vehicles, web, and mobile platforms? Our Human Interface Design (HID) team is redefining how people interact with automotive technology, both inside and outside the vehicle. From in-vehicle displays to connected apps and foundational design systems across software and hardware, we create seamless experiences that feel effortless, engaging, and safe.

This role is focused on creating excellent content design across platforms and user experiences within the Human Interface Design studio. You will help translate complex systems and interactions into clear, concise language that connects drivers, passengers, and digital users to the products and services they rely on every day.

What You’ll Do

  • Support content design work for assigned domains across platforms, including web, mobile, and in-vehicle experiences.

  • Design and build content using AI tools, taking a language-first approach to interfaces and interaction patterns.

  • Craft clear, concise, and consistent language for flows, screens, and components that span vehicle, app, and web touchpoints.

  • Help define, document, and evolve content standards and systems across the Human Interface Design practice.

  • Collaborate closely with designers, Customer Experience, Marketing, product managers, engineers, and UX researchers to bring ideas to life.

  • Apply information architecture and taxonomy best practices to simplify complex menus, navigation, and feature structures.

  • Champion safety, accessibility, and inclusive design in all content decisions, ensuring experiences are distraction-minimized and align with global standards.

  • Synthesize user research and behavioral insights into actionable content strategies and narratives across the customer journey.

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

  • Strong written, visual, and verbal communication skills.

  • A clear portfolio of work that showcases your ability to write and to evaluate writing quality across different contexts and platforms.

  • Deep understanding of human interface design best practices across digital products, ideally spanning web, mobile, and in-vehicle or other embedded experiences.

  • Skilled in information architecture and taxonomy, with an ability to simplify complex menu structures and interaction flows.

  • Strong editorial and design sensibility; you love language but believe most software benefits from fewer, more intentional words.

  • Ability to iterate quickly, form a clear design point of view, and navigate cross-functional feedback while maintaining coherence and clarity.

  • Self-starter with strong autonomy: comfortable identifying problem areas, tackling them independently, and sharing findings; you create clarity rather than waiting for it to be provided.

  • Proficient in Figma for collaborating with designers and documenting content within design workflows.

  • Experience following an in-house design system and content standards to ensure consistency at scale.

  • Baseline understanding and continued curiosity about AI-augmented UX writing workflows and processes.

What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)

  • You are known for being clear: you can communicate both high-level concepts and fine detail in one compelling, cohesive narrative.

  • You love good writing and naturally evaluate products, interfaces, and experiences through the lens of language.

  • Experience designing or contributing to content standards, design systems, and interaction models that scale across multiple product surfaces.

  • Demonstrated experience partnering with cross-functional teams (e.g., Customer Experience, Marketing, Engineering, Industrial Design) to ship high-quality experiences.

  • Experience working in automotive, mobility, connected products, or similarly complex technical domains.

  • Hands-on experience experimenting with and integrating AI tools into your day-to-day content design workflow.
