Reporting to the Certification Manager, the Certification Engineering Co-op will support the team responsible for the research, planning, and execution of the FAA certification process for commercial aircraft seats and seating components. You’ll play a pivotal role in ensuring our products at Collins Aerospace meet and exceed the highest safety standards, empowering us to continue leading the industry.
As part of your co-op experience, you’ll dive deep into the heart of aviation engineering, spearheading the research, planning, and execution of FAA certification processes for commercial aircraft seats and seating components. You will work with both our structural and flammability certification teams over a two-semester time frame (January-July).
What You Will Do:
As a Certification Co-op at Collins Aerospace/RTX,
- You will have hands-on opportunities to apply your engineering knowledge and contribute directly to our certification efforts.
- You will work closely with experienced engineers and gain valuable insights into the aerospace industry’s regulatory landscape, working on tasks related to seat testing, documentation, preparing Technical Standard Order (TSO) packages, and supporting the certification team.
- You will also learn about FAA regulations, the certification process, working as part of an integrated project team, and operating in a fast-paced environment.
Qualifications You Must Have:
- Must be pursuing a Bachelor's or Advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Materials Science Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) major and actively enrolled through the completion of the internship/co-op session.
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suites.

Qualifications We Prefer:
- Prior experience in aerospace industry, particularly with aircraft interiors.
- At least 60 credit hours complete by the time the co-op starts.
- Experience in reviewing and approving technical drawings.

The salary range for this role is 37,000 USD - 82,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels.
