Key Responsibilities
Vehicle Maintenance & Repair
Perform preventive maintenance services (PMs), including oil changes, filter replacement, fluid checks, and inspections.
Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues on gas and diesel vehicles.
Conduct repairs on engines, transmissions, brakes, suspension, steering, and HVAC systems.
Replace parts and components according to manufacturer specifications and shop standards.
Perform light fabrication, welding, or modifications when needed.
Diagnostics & Troubleshooting
Use scan tools, diagnostic software, and testing equipment to identify vehicle faults.
Accurately troubleshoot drivability issues, electrical problems, and intermittent concerns.
Determine root causes of failures and recommend effective repair solutions.
Escalate highly complex or unusual issues to senior technicians while assisting in diagnosis.
Inspections & Quality Control
Perform DOT inspections and safety checks (if applicable).
Ensure all work meets shop quality standards and safety regulations.
Conduct post-repair inspections and test drives to verify repairs.
Identify potential future issues and communicate recommendations.
Shop Operations Support
Maintain productivity by completing assigned work orders efficiently and accurately.
Keep work area clean, safe, and organized.
Properly use and maintain tools, equipment, and shop assets.
Assist with shop workflow during high-demand periods.
Documentation
Complete work orders with detailed notes on diagnostics, repairs performed, and parts used.
Track labor time accurately.
Report recurring failures or patterns to shop leadership.
Safety & Compliance
Follow all shop safety policies, OSHA standards, and company guidelines.
Wear and maintain required PPE.
Handle fluids, hazardous materials, and tools responsibly.
Promote a safety-first culture within the shop.
Team Leadership & Mentorship
Assist Technician I employees with troubleshooting and repair techniques.
Provide guidance on proper tool usage and repair procedures.
Share knowledge to improve overall team skill level.
Support a positive and productive shop environment.
Required Qualifications
High school diploma or GED required and 3 years+ of experience in an automotive, fleet, or heavy equipment shop.
Strong hands-on experience with gas and diesel engines.
Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment.
Ability to read repair manuals, wiring diagrams, and technical service information.
Safe drivers needed; valid driver’s license required.
Solid troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
Strong mechanical aptitude.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Good communication and teamwork.
Time management and efficiency in a fast-paced shop.
Attention to detail and pride in workmanship.
Ability to lift 50–75 lbs (with assistance when needed).
Frequent standing, bending, kneeling, and working under vehicles.
Ability to operate shop equipment such as lifts, jacks, and diagnostic tools.
Comfortable working in shop conditions (heat, cold, noise, fumes).
Preferred Qualifications
ASE certifications (or working toward certification).
Technical or automotive training preferred.
Experience with fleet maintenance systems
Experience working on medium- to heavy-duty trucks or specialty equipment.
Welding and fabrication experience (Optional)
Familiarity with OEM diagnostic systems.
Work Environment
Indoor/outdoor mechanic shop environment.
Exposure to moving vehicles, heavy equipment, oils, and chemicals.
May require overtime, weekends, or emergency repairs depending on workload.
