JOB PURPOSE 

As a Corporate Banking Associate at CIBC, you will contribute to transactions covering the breadth of infrastructure and energy markets with an evolving learning curve that requires enthusiasm, dedication, a willingness to learn and strong communication skills. This role provides an exceptional opportunity to develop analytical and qualitative skills while building meaningful client relationships. You will join a growing platform engaged in some of Europe’s most prominent financings.

The successful Associate will be integral in delivering banking products and services to corporate clients, focusing on client relationship management, credit analysis, transaction execution, and internal coordination. The ideal candidate is a clear communicator, a collaborative team player, and an analytical thinker, preferably with experience in energy and infrastructure within Corporate or Investment Banking, or a similar finance-related role.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Review and critically analyze due diligence materials and legal documentation for new opportunities and transactions. Coordinate questions and liaise with external advisers across technical, commercial, financial, insurance, and legal sectors.

  • Assist senior colleagues in preparing business proposals, memoranda, credit analyses, loan recommendations, company information documents, and other reports.

  • Support portfolio management of the European lending book, including annual reviews and amendment/waiver requests for existing borrowers.

  • Aid in executing structuring coordinator mandates, liaising with banks, legal counsel, and due diligence advisers; prepare marketing materials; conduct ratings analysis.

  • Develop presentations and coordinate with colleagues across Investment Banking, Debt Capital Markets, and the Trading Floor to position CIBC for future ancillary roles.

  • Foster the development and mentoring of junior colleagues.

  • Contribute to the maintenance of group databases, including electronic records and pipeline information.

  • Demonstrate adaptability in managing daily and weekly work assignments.

  • Support client onboarding, including KYC, documentation, and due diligence.

  • Respond to client queries and facilitate day-to-day banking needs

COMPLIANCE REQUIREMENTS/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • As an employee of CIBC, the incumbent must comply with all applicable CIBC and Line of Business policies, standards, guidelines and controls.  

AUTHORITIES/DECISION RIGHTS

  • As a key contributor to the business unit, this job has the authority to recommend changes to business processes in order to enhance operational efficiency and effectiveness.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, Economics, or a related field.

  • 3-4 years’ experience in banking, finance, or a related field.

  • Strong analytical, communication, and organizational skills.

  • Proficiency in financial modeling, Excel, and PowerPoint.

  • Knowledge of corporate banking products (loans, cash management, treasury, trade finance).

  • Understanding of credit analysis and risk management principles.

  • Solid business, accounting, economics, and finance knowledge, with prior credit analysis experience.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain and defend loan recommendations with detailed analysis to internal committees.

  • Ability to work effectively in a dynamic, client-centric, results-oriented team environment.

  • Effective time management skills and the ability to manage multiple workstreams across various clients, sectors, and assignments.

  • Demonstrated ability to assess and resolve problems.

  • Proven academic record, professionalism, ethics, and reputation.

  • Ability to review legal documentation and assess potential risks to the bank.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • ·This role operates within a normal office environment.

  • The role is fully onsite, so there will be requirement to be in the office 5 days a week.
