Northrop Grumman Mission Systems sector is seeking an Aeronautical/Mechanical Engineer 2/3 to join a highly talented, motivated, and collaborative Performance Analysis team in Sunnyvale, California. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to both current and future launcher programs through the development and application of physics-based modeling and simulation software. Candidate will assist in the development of complex mathematical models, heat transfer, hydraulic, and structural (FEA) performance assessment models for missile launching systems. Models focus on non-linear structural dynamics, gas dynamics, hydrodynamics, kinematics, heat transfer, and fluid/ structure interaction; elements required to accurately predict launch and shock performance. Candidate will also perform test data analysis for missile launch and shock tests. Candidate must be able to formally document results (e.g. technical reports, publications, presentations) and communicate effectively with internal and external customers.
This is a dual level requisition which can be filled as a Level 2 or Level 3 Engineer
Basic Qualifications for Level 2:
· Bachelor’s degree in Aeronautical/Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Structural Engineering, Physics, or a closely related technical discipline with a minimum of 2 years of relevant industry experience in modeling and simulation, test data reduction, or statistical analysis or a Master’s degree in Aeronautical/Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Structural Engineering, Physics, or a closely related technical discipline with no experience.
- Proficiency in at least one programming language (C/C++, Python, MATLAB or FORTRAN).
- Strong writing skills for technical documentation and communication.
- Must be able to work onsite 4 days a week at our Sunnyvale Site
- Must be a U.S. citizenship
- Must be able to obtain a US Government security clearance.

· Bachelor’s degree in Aeronautical/Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Structural Engineering, Physics, or a closely related technical discipline with a minimum of 5 years of relevant industry experience in modeling and simulation, test data reduction, or statistical analysis or a Master’s degree in Aeronautical/Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Structural Engineering, Physics, or a closely related technical discipline with 3 years of of relevant industry experience in modeling and simulation, test data reduction, or statistical analysis or a PHD in Aeronautical/Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Structural Engineering, Physics, or a closely related technical discipline with no experience.
- Proficiency in at least one programming language (C/C++, Python, MATLAB or FORTRAN).

Preferred Qualifications:
- Masters or PhD in Mechanical or Aeronautical / Aerospace Engineering.
- Knowledge in physics-based modeling and software development.
- Expertise in statistical analysis and uncertainty quantification of large data sets.
- Knowledge in structural dynamics, fluid-structure interaction (FSI), conjugate heat transfer (CHT), multi-phase flows, or combustion processes.
- Test Data Reduction and Analysis.
- Active security clearance.
