What you'll be doing
Technology at CIBC is focused on building secure, reliable, and innovative solutions that support our clients and the business. As a Software Engineer Intern, you'll contribute to hands-on assignments that support the development and enhancement of software applications across the organization. You'll help develop, code, test, and debug end-to-end solutions, while participating in technical design, development, and integration activities across platforms. You'll collaborate with technology and business partners to identify issues, ask thoughtful questions, and support effective solutions in a fast-paced environment. Throughout the internship, you'll gain exposure to banking products, services, regulatory requirements, and CIBC's core systems and processes. You'll also complete training, apply your learning in daily work, and build your technical, analytical, and communication skills through mentorship and development opportunities.

How you'll succeed
- Software development - Contribute to the development, coding, testing, and debugging of applications and system enhancements across the software development life cycle.
- Technical collaboration - Partner with technology and business teams to support design, development, and integration activities for cross-functional, multi-platform applications.
- Problem solving - Review and analyze programming systems, identify issues, and help implement effective solutions with attention to quality and detail.
- Risk and compliance - Support adherence to regulatory, information security, and internal policy requirements in all aspects of application management.
- Learning and growth - Participate in training, mentorship, community outreach, and leadership development opportunities, and apply new knowledge to your day-to-day work.
Who you are
- You're pursuing a relevant degree. You're currently a junior or senior enrolled in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a related field, with an expected graduation date between December 2026 and June 2027.
- You have foundational technical knowledge. You bring an understanding of the software development life cycle, databases such as Oracle and Structured Query Language (SQL), batch processing, and file transfer and network security concepts such as File Transfer Protocol (FTP), Secure File Transfer Protocol (SFTP), and firewalls.
- You're building programming skills. You have experience with programming languages such as Python, and you're comfortable learning new tools and technologies.
- You're digitally curious and adaptable. You stay open to new technologies and trends, and knowledge of artificial intelligence or security tools and concepts is considered an asset.
- You're a strong collaborator. You communicate clearly, build positive relationships, and work effectively with teammates and partners in a dynamic environment.

At CIBC, we offer a competitive total rewards package. This role has an expected hourly rate of $36 - $40 per hour for the State of Illinois market based on experience, qualifications, and location of the position. CIBC offers a full range of benefits and programs to meet our intern's needs; including 401(k) contribution, Paid Time Off (including Sick Leave and Vacation), and Holidays, in addition to other special perks reserved for our team members.
