Northrop Grumman is seeking an Associate Mechanical Design Engineer or Mechanical Design Engineer .  This position will be located at our Aeronautics Systems Sector in Melbourne, FL. The qualified candidate will become part of Northrop Grumman's Product Support organization. 

The selected candidate will contribute in the research, design, analysis, manufacture, and testing associated with aircraft Support Equipment.

In this role, the selected candidate will be responsible for:

  • Mechanical design of test, measurement, and handling equipment used on military aircraft.

  • Gathering of data, requirements development, interfacing with suppliers, and performing basic stress and tolerance analysis

  • Acting as manufacturing liaison during build process of your project to ensure overall quality, delivery, and cost objectives are achieved

  • Development of test plans and performing environmental testing of Support Equipment

  • Testing and integration of manufactured Support Equipment on aircraft

  • Basic knowledge of design and analysis tools for mechanical design as well as basic drafting skills to include a working knowledge of solid modeling techniques (NX, Pro Engineer, or Catia).

The selected candidate should thrive in a fast-paced work environment with high expectations, significantly diverse assignments, collaborative/team settings across all levels. Candidate must also be willing to occasionally travel to various site locations to demonstrate the function of the designed Support Equipment.

This requisition may be filled at either an Associate Mechanical Design Engineer or Mechanical Design Engineer level.

Basic Qualifications for an Associate Mechanical Design Engineer

A candidate, regardless of age and hiring source, must meet ALL of the below criteria. The candidate must:

  • Be completing or has completed their Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution by August 2026

  • Be majoring in or having majored in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or similar STEM degree

  • Be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance (U.S. citizenship is a pre-requisite) as well as Program Special access within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company to meet its business needs (U.S. citizenship is a pre-requisite).  Final approved U.S. Government security clearance (U.S. citizenship is a pre-requisite) as well as Program Special Access may be required to start.

  • Be completing or has completed their Master’s degree from an accredited institution by August 2026 or a completed Bachelors degree and 2 years of experience in the design of mechanical and/or electro-mechanical subsystems .

  • Be majoring in or having majored in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or similar STEM degree

  • Be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance (U.S. citizenship is a pre-requisite) as well as Program Special access within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company to meet its business needs (U.S. citizenship is a pre-requisite).  Final approved U.S. Government security clearance (U.S. citizenship is a pre-requisite) as well as Program Special Access may be required to start.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Have an overall cumulative GPA of 3.25/4.0 or higher

  • Previous internship/co-op or other work experience, leadership & teamwork capabilities, interpersonal communication skills, and activities (professional/community/extracurricular)

  • Current, active in-scope Government Secret or higher security clearance

  • Experience using FEA software in performance of stress analysis of mechanical and/or electrical assemblies to include static and dynamic analysis to MIL-STD-810 requirements

  • FAA A&P Certificate or equivalent aircraft maintenance background

  • Experience developing manufacturing drawings to GD&T standards

Pay Range:

  • Associate Mechanical Design Engineer : $59,900 to $89,900

  • Mechanical Design Engineer: $72,100 to $108,100
