Northrop Grumman Space Systems, Multi-Domain Operations, and Missile Defense Integration Business Unit (BU) has an exciting career opportunity for a Sr. Principal Engineer Systems Architect – Level 4 to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be in Huntsville, Al.

Position Overview:

The selected Sr. Principal Engineer Systems Architect – Level 4 will support the development and review of interface documents, system requirements, Verification Cross Reference Matrix (VCRM) development, architectural documentation, engineering estimates, and author and perform formal and informal engineering reviews.

The position will also provide mentoring to junior systems engineering team members to enhance skills in the department. The selected candidate will work with the enterprise test architect to demonstrate system performance of capabilities as required.

The selected candidate needs to be flexible and be able to support various tasks on short notice.

The work will be performed under the direction of the Global Architect Lead and will require interfacing with team members, management of external systems, and government customers to ensure high-quality products are generated on time and within the resources available.

Essential Functions:

  • Adhering to DOORS processes and procedures, reviewing the content and details of technical products, and acting as a technical interface to government working-level counterparts on an as-required basis.
  • Will be actively involved in the efforts associated with Agile development, including iteration planning, team members on architectural patterns being used, and agile team leadership.
  • Will work on large multi-site software development efforts, including external interface development.
  • Will conduct or lead Analysis of Alternatives, Trade Studies, and Design Evaluations including both physical and logical architectures across the System
  • Will assist in documenting or reviewing architecture using an MBSE tool such as CAMEO
  • Will present at internal and external design reviews
  • Will interface with project leads, product owners, and government customer

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline from an accredited university and 8 years of experience, or a Master's Degree in STEM and 6 years of experience, or 4 years of experience with a PhD.
  • Proven track record of successfully applying system engineering principles to develop product solutions.
  • Must have experience developing system engineering artifacts (e.g., specifications, Interface Control Documents, Use Cases, System Architecture Descriptions, Trade Studies, etc.).
  • Experience with identifying and defining desired capabilities; communicating them to a diverse group of developers, engineers, subject matter experts, and users; and generating architecture artifacts to document and control the achievement of the desired capabilities
  • Must have experience in developing large, complex software systems.
  • Experience developing solutions in an integrated team environment with other systems, software, and specialty engineers is required.
  • Must possess the ability to communicate effectively and clearly present technical approaches and findings.
  • Able to write and implement engineering plans within a project.
  • Ability and willingness to travel 10% of the time to support business needs.
  • Applicants must have a current active in-scope U.S. Government issued Secret security clearance at the time of application which is required to start.
  • Experience as a technical leader for a DoD Systems Engineering or Development effort
  • Experience creating briefings, creating and reviewing architecture designs and artifacts, and presenting at DoD Customer Design Reviews
  • Establish design and technology maturity constraints that align with customer specifications to ensure feasibility and reliability.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Desired skills include experience working within an Agile development environment, domain experience with both Space and Missile Defense, experience with Systems Analysis, Model Based System Engineering, and Architecture development, Requirements Decomposition, Standards Compliance, Design, Implementation, and Acceptance Tests
  • Experience with designing large command and control and weapon systems
  • Experience with processing radar sensor data
  • Experience with near real-time processing, persistence, and distributed user community 

Primary Level Salary Range: $135,800.00 - $203,600.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
