Why this role is important to us:

The Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) department at State Street is responsible for the identification, analysis, and management of risk at both the corporate-level and in partnership with the business units in support of their activities.  This is accomplished by balancing our growth and revenue targets with appropriate risk oversight, policies, guidelines and limits, as well as support provided by risk management professionals.

Strategic Risk within ERM is focused on the management of risks arising from State Street’s business strategy and its execution and risks related to a lack of appropriate adaptation to changes in the industry and broader environment. Led by the Head of Operational Resiliency, Third Party, and Strategic Risk, the Strategic Risk practice at State Street is an emerging practice for the firm, and the ideal candidate will have the opportunity to help shape and influence its evolution.

Who we are looking for: The group is seeking a highly qualified individual to support the ongoing development of State Street’s strategic risk management capabilities, including establishing new programs and associated governance. 

Major responsibilities include:

  • Collaborating both within the group and with cross-functional teams across the organization to establish new practices in strategic risk as well as to further develop existing areas of practice,
  • Support horizon scanning and strategic risk analysis, integrating outputs into management reporting and dashboards
  • Supporting the development of new risk assessment and measurement methodologies and frameworks,
  • Managing prioritization of key activities, project plans, and related remediation work,
  • Supporting the production of senior management-level updates and presentation materials for various forums including, the Chief Risk Officer and senior Management- and Board-level risk governance committees.

  • Ability to distill complex or new and ambiguous concepts into actionable frameworks and meaningful guidance for internal stakeholders
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple assignments concurrently
  • Demonstrated high energy and strong motivation to add value to the organization

Qualifications and Skills:

  • 8+ years of professional experience
  • Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred
  • Strong writing and critical thinking skills
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to identify and develop solutions in nascent or emerging areas
  • Strong technical/analytical/quantitative skills; advanced capabilities in Excel and basic programming (e.g., R, Python) skills are a plus
  • The ability to work in a fast-paced, unstructured environment
  • Ability to support creation of effective presentations on results of key initiatives
  • Ability to provide a strategic perspective while maintaining a detail-oriented approach to deliverables to ensure a high standard of quality and accuracy
  • Project management skills, including coordination with key stakeholders across the organization

Salary Range:

$120,000 - $202,500 Annual

The range quoted above applies to the role in the primary location specified. If the candidate would ultimately work outside of the primary location above, the applicable range could differ.
