Overview

Managing the daily operation of a laboratory focusing on human and systems immunology. Serving as lab liaison with Environmental Health &Safety, core facilities, and both internal and external collaborators; maintaining lab equipment and record and monitoring the budget; Working collaboratively with other lab members to monitor and facilitate research progress. As part of a human immunology program, this person will also serve as the study coordinator responsible for HIC/IRB study start-up and maintenance, patient screening/recruitment, enrollment/consenting, research database management, coordinating and conducting blood draws, specimen shipment, sample processing, biobanking with specimen inventory management, and clinical data curation and compilation. The coordinator will ensure that the clinical activities forestudy participants are conducted in accordance with approved protocols and will design and implement quality control measures for accurate collection and processing of data. Based on knowledge of the science and research goals, the coordinator will coordinate with PIs and the research team to optimize study coordination and the efficiency/impact of the research pipeline. Researches and collects data through complex laboratory/scientific experiments, techniques, and procedures. Modifies and plans research experiments, procedures, tests, attends meetings, and presents issues, when necessary, that were identified during congruency review. Assists in research design. Writes and edits material for publication and presentation. Reports on the status of research activities. Oversees and instructs research and support staff on technical procedures, equipment operation, and laboratory maintenance. Schedules and coordinates research activities. Compares protocols and sponsored projects to confirm consistency between funding proposals/awards and approved protocols. Documents established congruency between funding proposals and approved protocols.


Required Skills and Abilities

2. Ability to work independently to develop, manage and organize human studies. Lab management: budgeting, ordering, working with the Yale business office to monitor budget, spending, and create reports for grants
3. Ability to carry out research within the scope of the established study protocol and adheres to all human subjects’ regulations as defined by Yale University and the federal government that pertains to research studies
4. Ability to create original HIC/IRB submissions based on knowledge of science and research goals
5. Ability to contribute in-depth, original thought and relevance to written reports and to the writing of abstracts and manuscripts. Ability to perform descriptive and multivariate statistical analyses of data using computer software.

Principal Responsibilities

1. Designs, plans, implements and evaluates complex multifaceted research projects/systems, including method development, adaptation and validation. 2. Collaborates with PI to define research endeavors and the development of research hypothesis and approach. 3. Solves complex methodology, protocol, procedural and research problems through design of techniques, procedures and policies that will achieve research goals. 4. Develops long range plans for supplies and equipment to ensure smooth operation of laboratory. 5. Investigates, analyzes and evaluates complex data, data collection systems and methods to reach scientific conclusions and ensures the integrity of research data. 6. Collaborates with PI to coordinate major lab renovations working with Facilities, Health and Safety, and Purchasing to ensure deadlines, safety standards and purchases are according to plans and within budgets. 7. Prepares scientific reports and papers for research proposals and published reports. 8. May perform other duties as assigned. Required Education and Experience Master’s Degree in a scientific discipline and three years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
