Amentum is seeking an Herbicide Technician for Creech Air Force Base.

Purpose and Scope: 

The Herbicide Technician mixes and fills sprayer tanks to apply herbicides by spraying chemicals on trees, shrubs, lawns, botanical crops and heavily weeded areas.  Possess specialization in herbicide application to include holding a current Nevada Department of Agriculture Certification as required by State and Federal statutes.

  

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Maintain spray equipment such as tractors, spray Gators, hand spraying equipment, hoses, tubes and nozzles.
  • Proportion the use of chemicals and water rationing according to manufacturer recommended formulas.
  • Monitor weather conditions daily to minimize contamination of personnel, water sheds or aquifers.
  • Conduct manual hand removal of weeds in hard to reach areas and provide inventory control of chemicals.
  • Provide weekly and monthly documentation to management of herbicide usage.
  • Maintain herbicide storage facility in accordance with EPA governing directives.
  • Accomplish inventory control and provide monthly report to supervisor.
  • Utilizes various hand and power tools as required to perform general maintenance duties.
  • Operate industrial size farm tractors to apply herbicide to vast land areas to include airdromes.
  • Personal computer, printer, calculator, FAX machine, copy machine and other general office equipment.
  • Performs other general maintenance duties as assigned.      

Minimum Position Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

  • High School diploma or GED
  • 2 years’ experience as herbicide technician.
  • Possess knowledge of basic biology, arithmetic, geometry and algebra for the application of prescribed herbicides as required. 
  • Must be able to obtain specific training and license as required by State or Federal statues to be qualified to apply herbicide. 
  • Able to train others in the use of small herbicide application methods. 
  • Must have good verbal and nonverbal communication skills to obtain and maintain interpersonal relationships with the public.
  • Must possess familiarity with creating documents using Word and Excel. 
  • Must Performs tasks IAW verbal and written instructions to comply with established standards.  
  • Duties may require a forklift operator license.
  • Position requires the ability to pass and maintain a Secret Security Clearance. 
  • Possess a valid state issued driver’s license.
  • Position is represented by a Union Collective Bargaining Agreement

Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands:

Works inside and outside in various weather conditions to include extreme cold and heat. Work around non-hazardous materials/waste lifting, stooping, crawling, bending, and carrying.  Heavy lifting up to 50 pounds on a daily basis. Constant exposure to various forms of dust to include rubber dust, dust from steel shot, lime dust, garnet and sand. Constant use of speech/hearing abilities for communication, constant mental alertness, must possess planning/organizing skills. Position requires routine travel at contract locations to perform assigned duties.

Compensation Details:

$35.26
