Overview
This position at Transportation, Receiving, & Storage (TR&S) – Medical School Receiving drives a TR&S vehicle and is responsible to fulfill pickup and delivery requests as required to service the needs of the departments and labs on the Medical School campus in a fast-paced, high-level customer service-oriented environment. Packages/equipment/lab materials deliveries, tracking, scanning, processing, and status updates are performed on a daily basis. Performs inventory and receiving dock responsibilities as required.
Delivery of packages, parcels, lab equipment, perishables, and time-sensitive research materials are performed daily. Drive a courier vehicle to complete standing order and on-call work requests to and from internal Yale departments and customers daily. Load and unload packages and ethanol from shipping carriers. Receive, process, track, and deliver packages through Beartracks server on a desktop computers and iPad minis. Use handheld tracking devices, iPad minis, desktop scanners, at all Medical School receiving docks. Work at all sister building receiving docks on campus as needed. Operate pallet jacks and lift up to 75 lbs. Deliver packages on foot for long periods of time inside and outside Yale buildings. Assist with maintenance of ethanol inventory shipments. May receive incoming orders from vendors, ensure accuracy of deliveries, and sign off on deliveries. Follow inventory procedures and assist with weekly physical counts of packages and ethanol.
Deliver excellent customer service and represent Yale/TR&S well in the Yale community. May make essential, sensitive pick-ups and deliveries. Work with staff and management to communicate customer needs and resolve job and delivery-related issues. Ensure delivery vehicles are clean inside and out, and report any maintenance issues in a timely manner. Other essential duties as necessary.
Required Skills and Abilities
1. Demonstrated ability in receiving and delivering in a courier role. Must have and maintain a valid Connecticut driver’s license with a safe driving record and experience driving on and off campus. Familiarity with New Haven preferred. Proven ability to perform work effectively with many interruptions. Proven ability to work independently, as well as the ability to display skills while working as part of a team.
2. Proven ability to navigate New Haven roadways with a delivery vehicle, while maintaining a safe driving record.
3. Strong organizational skills and the ability to multi-task while working in a team environment. Strong attention to detail and the ability to count accurately. Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction, specifically in parcel delivery.
4. Demonstrated strong customer service skills. Proven ability to troubleshoot issues that may arise in daily operations. Demonstrated strong professional communication skills, Ability to greet and provide assistance to customers, including; Faculty, Staff and Students.
5. Computer knowledge, ability to work in database to track/retrieve information. Experience working with package tracking systems (Beartracks or similar), Demonstrated ability using a scanning system for deliveries. Operate Computer Scanners for processing packages and iPads / handheld tracking devices for processing and delivery services.
Principal Responsibilities
1. As part of the delivery services, provides general customer service support to clients on an as-needed basis. Addresses requests/concerns or refers clients to the appropriate person. 2. Reviews and verifies accuracy of job tickets and other office documentation. Sorts and prioritizes items for delivery. Receives, sorts, prioritizes and processes orders for delivery. 3. Drives vehicle for pick-up and delivery services. Delivers items to specific locations. Maintains the order of work area and vehicle. May repair vehicle. 4. Performs clerical function incidental to delivery activities, including maintaining and logging orders for pickup and delivery. Required Education and Experience Two years of related work experience and a high school level education, or an equivalent combination of experience and education. Physical Requirements Ability to operate moving equipment such as pallet jacks, delivery carts, and delivery hand trucks. Ability to load and unload delivery trucks and pull inventory items for supply orders. Must be able to push, pull and lift up to 75 pounds.Job Posting Date
