Job Description

Summary

We are seeking a Data Relationship Manager (DRM) to serve as the primary bridge between the IT organization and our business partner’s data needs. You will partner with business leaders to understand the impact and technical feasibility of their requests, drive the decomposition of complex requirements, and be responsible for designing our data product (DaaP) architecture using technical best practices. You will become a subject matter expert in your department’s data sources and key metrics, as well as critical cross-functional support for our Actionable Data Insights (ADI) program. The ADI program is the operating model that engages business teams across the enterprise, and builds out the enterprise data model to align data for key business processes, KPIs, and insights.

Reporting to the Analytics Enablement & Governance Manager, we are looking for intellectually curious advisors to solve complex business problems and improve MSI’s data ecosystem.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic IT & Business Partnership

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key ADI stakeholders, particularly those in your specific business functional group (e.g., Marketing, Sales, Supply Chain, Finance)

  • Understand their data needs and challenges, translating them into actionable data solutions and program deliverables.

  • Partner with IT BRMs (Business Relationship Managers), business analytics managers and senior leadership to align on their data goals, priorities and overarching yearly roadmap

  • Work with IT leaders by communicating effectively, prioritizing shared business partner needs, and present solutions

  • Effectively communicate the impact of ADI development work on business outcomes.

Functional Requirements Definition

  • Partner with Business Systems Analysts (BSAs) to oversee the creation of technical specs, providing the strategic context they need to document functional requirements accurately, and translate them into development-ready user stories.

  • Ensure all data initiatives comply with IT data governance, security measures, and established data product (DaaP) design standards

  • Verify development aligns with business expectations before production deployment, including confirming business user acceptance testing (UAT) sign-off

Feasibility & Design Recommendation

  • Architect key data products by designing tables per best practice based on business domain needs.

  • For large and complex business requests, translate requirements into technical design recommendations and a level of effort estimation

  • Act as the "communications conduit" on key data projects between business domain experts, IT product owners, and the development (Scrum) teams

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative, technical field such as Information Systems, Computer Science, Mathematics or Engineering

  • 5+ years of prior experience in a business-facing data role, such as Corporate Strategy, Consulting, or Data Operations

  • Familiarity with Motorola’s current data stack (AWS Redshift and SQL)

    • Intermediate to advanced SQL proficiency is preferred for data validation and troubleshooting support

    • Understanding of AWS architecture is preferred (distribution styles, sort keys and data sharing)

  • Experience in data modeling & table design at enterprise-scale

  • Strong understanding of data management concepts and stack such as AWS S3, Redshift, AWS Glue, or other comparable environments

  • Strong understanding of key BI platforms (Tableau & Alation) or comparable tools

  • Experience working within Agile/Scrum frameworks

  • Proficient in Atlassian applications (Jira and Confluence) or similar tools

  • Proven track record of managing high-profile, cross-functional projects with multiple stakeholders
