Chief of Staff - CO Strategy & Transformation

Hp
Palo Alto, California, United States of America Executive Full-time
Chief of Staff - CO Strategy & Transformation

Description -

This Chief of Staff role will serve as the execution integrator and operating leader for CO Strategy & Transformation, ensuring that priorities translate into action, commitments turn into outcomes, and the organization operates with speed, clarity, and accountability.

Acting as an extension of the leader, the Chief of Staff drives operating rigor across a diverse portfolio spanning AI Engines, Applied AI, Transformation, and GTM Strategy — creating alignment, enforcing accountability, surfacing risks early, and ensuring critical initiatives move forward with discipline and urgency. This is not a strategy-development role; the primary mission is execution, integration, governance, and organizational effectiveness.

How this role works with the Head of Strategy
The Head of Strategy leads strategy development and serves as the leader’s primary thought partner on strategic direction. The Chief of Staff owns execution, integration, governance, and operating rhythm — converting that strategy into delivered outcomes. The two roles are complementary and non-overlapping: strategy sets direction; the Chief of Staff ensures disciplined, accountable execution against it.

Three Core Priorities
1.  Execution & Accountability — Turn priorities and commitments into delivered outcomes — establishing ownership, follow-through, and timely escalation across the organization.
2.  Operating Excellence & Governance — Design and run the operating system — cadence, reviews, KPIs, and decision tracking — and drive budget governance and resource discipline.
3.  Organizational Integration — Maintain one integrated view across the portfolio, break down silos, and resolve cross-functional dependencies as a neutral integrator focused on enterprise outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

Execution & Accountability
•    Establish a culture of ownership, transparency, and follow-through across the organization.
•    Drive accountability for strategic priorities, commitments, milestones, and outcomes.
•    Identify execution risks early and drive timely resolution and escalation.
•    Ensure decisions are translated into actions with clear owners, timelines, and success measures.
Operating Excellence & Governance
•    Design and run the operating system — business reviews, staff meetings, planning cycles, governance forums, and executive updates.
•    Create visibility into performance through KPIs, OKRs, milestones, and portfolio-health metrics.
•    Drive budget governance and resource discipline in partnership with Finance and organizational leaders.
•    Continuously simplify processes and improve operating efficiency across teams.

Organizational Integration
•    Maintain an integrated view across AI Engines, Applied AI, Transformation, and GTM Strategy.
•    Break down silos, resolve cross-functional dependencies, and drive alignment across leaders and teams.
•    Keep priorities, resource allocation, and execution plans aligned across the portfolio.
•    Act as a neutral integrator focused on enterprise outcomes rather than individual team objectives.

Leadership Team Effectiveness
•    Increase leadership-team effectiveness through structured decision-making, preparation, and follow-through.
•    Ensure leadership discussions focus on decisions, trade-offs, risks, and actions — not status reporting.
•    Track leadership commitments and drive closure on agreed actions.
•    Support organizational-health initiatives, employee-engagement actions, and leadership-effectiveness efforts.
Executive Communication & Business Rhythm
•    Develop clear executive narratives, updates, and business reviews that provide visibility into progress, risks, and impact.
•    Ensure consistent communication and cascading of priorities across the organization.
•    Support leadership engagements with clear, concise, data-driven materials.

What Success Looks Like
•    Organizational priorities are clearly understood and consistently executed.
•    Cross-functional dependencies are proactively managed and resolved, with silos broken down across teams.
•    Leadership commitments are delivered on time and with high quality.
•    Budget performance remains visible, predictable, and within plan.
•    Governance processes operate smoothly without requiring direct intervention from the leader.
•    Risks and execution challenges are surfaced early and addressed quickly.
•    The leader spends less time chasing status, resolving coordination issues, and driving follow-through.

What You Bring
•    6–10 years of experience in Chief of Staff, business operations, strategy execution, consulting, transformation, or similar operating roles.
•    Comfort with AI tools, with the instinct to use AI, automation, and data to improve decision-making and accelerate execution.
•    Exposure to AI / technology and commercial / GTM contexts, with the ability to connect technology and commercial impact to execution.
•    Demonstrated ability to drive execution and accountability across senior stakeholders without formal authority.
•    Exceptional organizational and program-leadership skills.
•    Strong judgment and the ability to navigate ambiguity and competing priorities.
•    Excellent communication and executive presence.
•    High ownership, resilience, and bias for action.
•    Experience operating in fast-moving, complex, global environments.
•    Ability to influence leaders, drive difficult conversations, and maintain trust while enforcing accountability.

Ways of Working
•    Acts with delegated authority on operating-rhythm, governance, prioritization, and execution-tracking matters.
•    Partners closely with leaders across CO Strategy & Transformation as a peer and facilitator — not as a line manager.
•    Does not own delivery on behalf of functional leaders; owns visibility, accountability, integration, and follow-through.
•    Escalates unresolved risks, resource conflicts, and execution issues when intervention is required.
•    Operates as a force multiplier for the leader by increasing organizational effectiveness and execution velocity.

The base pay range for this role is $120,850 - $175,200 annually with additional opportunities for pay in the form of bonus and/or equity (applies to US candidates only). Pay varies by work location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
