Overview

The Yale Flow Cytometry facility is comprised of a large collection of instruments, operated and managed by technical staff. This technical position contributes to the facility’s broad range of services by 1) operating and maintaining a cell sorter, 2) providing upkeep and calibration of analytic flow cytometry instruments. Perform daily maintenance, upkeep, and calibration of analytic flow cytometers.

Set up, operate and maintain a cell sorter. If needed train users to independently sort.

Work closely with cell sort clients during the experiment to ensure optimal outcome, including advising, responding to requests, and instrument adjustment.

If required, provide analyzer support including training, consulting with users on technique and application development, including fluorochrome selection.

Perform fee for service data acquisition and analysis on flow cytometer analyzers.

Stay updated with emerging research trends and technologies in Flow Cytometry.

Call for service when needed and troubleshoot minor problems with machines.

Comply with BSL guidelines for assigned cell sorter’s laboratory environment.

Order, organize and maintain all supplies, for overseen instruments.

Enforce rules and policies concerning the use of the machine.


Required Skills and Abilities

1. Strong knowledge of scientific principles and research methodologies.

2. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Reliable, independent and self-motivated.

3. Ability to work effectively in a collaborative research environment.

4. Detail oriented with excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

5. Proficiency in data analysis and flow cytometry analysis tools.

Preferred Skills and Abilities

1. Master’s degree in a relevant technical discipline OR Bachelor’s degree with 3+ years of related experience discipline OR an equivalent combination of skills, education, and experience.

2. Hands-on experience with flow cytometry analyzers, data analysis and cell sorting required.

Principal Responsibilities

1. User Training: Provide technical training and guidance to users of the research core. 2. Experiment Support: Contribute to experimental design, execution, data analysis, and troubleshooting for research projects using established protocols within the research core. 3. Facility/Instrument Support: Support research core operations, including specialized equipment maintenance.  4. Technique Development: Optimize experimental protocols and workflows. 5. Data Analysis/Interpretation: Analyze and interpret complex scientific data. 6. Equipment Procurement: Assist in the installation and maintenance of specialized research core equipment. 7. Professional Development: Stay updated with relevant scientific literature and advancements in the field. Participate in professional development activities and scientific conferences. 8. Scientific Participation: Collect and analyze scientific data for manuscript preparation and grant proposals 9. Vendor Relations: Maintains vendor relationships, evaluates products, and collaborates with purchasing for timely procurement of laboratory supplies. 10. Education and Outreach: Participate in education and outreach activities within the core, including tours, events, etc. Required Education and Experience Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline and two years of related experience or an equivalent combination of skills, education, and experience
